When I chanced to look over the wall in the glade -
I was taking a walk with Mamma -
I saw an old ewe sitting down in the shade,
And she opened her mouth and said, "Bah!"
That’s always what happens when sheep I come near,
They watch me approach from afar,
And out of the turnips and clover I hear
A horrid ironical "Bah!"
What can I have done? I can’t understand -
The cantankerous creatures they are!
I never throw stones, I hold dear Mamma’s hand
And I don't think they ought to say "Bah!"
